~Abraham Ritchie of ARTSLANT says a few choice words...

(n.caldwell)

"It is against this civic backdrop that the fledgling art organization Sixty Inches From Center organized their exhibition “Contemporary Graffiti,” at the C33 Gallery in Chicago, featuring the work of Azteca, Klepto, Blutt, Zoe McCloskey, Hebru Brantley, Magda Sayeg, Brooks Golden, Stockyard Institute, Jova el Graffista."

~Chicago Art Magazine Blog.. Top Street Art Picks for the Month of September

(FROM THEIR WEBSITE)

By Fruzsina Eordogh

"The street art of September was so very plentiful.

I like to think I am partially responsible for the proliferation, but I know there are greater forces at work besides my delusions of grandeur, forces much more mundane – like the coming cold weather. Tiptoe has returned from his holiday, and the respectable (now ” retro” ) Senor Codo has reemerged with his pac-man inspired stickers and baseball-capped figures, a staple of his since 2006".

(then some extremely generous words by the author)
"If a street art king could be crowned for the month of September, that king would be Brooks Golden. Not only is his work at the Sixty Inches from Center exhibit, but this year he was invited to participate in the Meeting of Styles Chicago event for the first time'.

~ Studio Chicago Art Blog.."They do It for free"...

from their website...

...Skill and studio practice
"Within the last two decades contemporary street art has become widely popular amongst many artists who combine both traditional studio practice and self-taught skills such as “graffiti writing”. Graffiti Writing is comprised of self-designed graphic font, text and symbols. Not all street artists have a background in graffiti writing and not all graffiti writers are practicing street artists. Participating artists in Sixty Inches From Center: Contemporary Graffiti are Jova el Grafista, Hebru Brantley, Brooks Golden and Blutt who all work with a variety of media and uniquely incorporate traditional elements of graffiti style. Like all the artists in the exhibition, they all work in and out of the studio".

~Sketch for a Sketch Chicago!. Alex Pardee and Dave Correia

Zerofriends presents:
“SKETCH 4 SKETCH”
A Nationwide Quest To Exchange Inspiration For Inspiration

Starting on Friday, April 16 in Sacramento, Bay area artists Alex Pardee & Dave Correia, along with filmmaker Stephen Reedy, are venturing across the United States on a quest for some well-needed inspiration. Utilizing social networking software such as Twitter and uStream, and armed with only a camera, a sketch pad, and raffle tickets (with a HUGE prize – see below) to sell along the way for gas money, the crew of artists will be stopping in over 30 cities in random locations around the country, hoping to not only meet fans and friends, but to trade quick sketches (or ANY kind of art) for quick sketches in order to jostle their imagination and drench them in inspiration, and in hopes of mutually offering some inspiration of their own.
Along their journey, some big surprises are going to occur, and we are sure some spontaneous fun will show up, too.
